Rejected…

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

Well, finally got the confirmation from my course tutor Dr. Sham, i got rejected by 8TV. Just like a cager going for a lay up… then gets rejected by the big ass Ben Wallace like center, my automatic response was "oooooooo". I’m not a even abit sad by this… not at all, in fact i’m pretty happy about it because it got me another interview with RED 104.9, the place i originally wanted to undergo my internship, and its a radio station. Its just the fact that i am the only 1 rejected, "you’re the unlucky one , you’re the only 1 rejected" those were the exactly the words from Dr. Sham’s mouth, i kindda suspected that they wanted me to be in the chinese section instead of the department they were gonna sent me to - urban content… bloody hell i couldda been best friends with Marion Caunter!!! heck even the 2 girls that were late got the job, that pretty much says it all. Guess i’m just being abit emo today. Now, lets hope i nail this interview, and hope that they pick christina. TINA !!! GAMBATTE!

Review of “Open Season”

Saturday, October 21st, 2006

Thus continue my reviews of the latest movies to hit the cinemas (What a wonderful excuse of doing research… ah! the life of a broadcasting student).

Now before i start the review, just wanna start a rant about something irrelevant… 1U is getting crowded… bloody hell, its the first time i have to get stuck in a jam in the parking lot… AT 11.35PM!!! Don’t you guys need to like… celebrate Deepavali  or something? Just realize that whenever you’re late for something, its the time the slowest drivers in Malaysia decide to have a drive.

Anyways… on with the review.
And what a disappointment - FULL STOP
To start… who’s bright idea was it to cast Martin Lawrence as the voice of Boog the bear? Casting him literary killed off the show. Boog could be better with anybody as the voice, but not Martin Lawrence. His voice and the personality doesn’t suit the entire film, who ever heard of a urban speaking bear in a rural country-side setting. Ashton on the other hand could be a better voice for Boog, he sounds like a loser anyway which might endear himself to the crowd. Ashton’s character stole the show for me… barely. His character Elliot is the comic relief of the entire show, with him spurting non-sense at the most inappropriate moments in the entire film. Another flaw which i thought was the film’s killer is the inability to generate any sense of relationship between the characters. Now i took this quote from IMDB
"Ashton Kutcher and Martin Lawrence never met during the making of the film."
And it shows, they didn’t click, its like 1 is saying sometime totally different.
Sad to say that Animation featuring animals and humans in a natural setting has probably ran its short lived course… too many of it this year probably killed it. The story premise of " Main character lives in a comfortable environment, main gets dumped into unfamiliar place, main overcomes personal struggle to adapt into the unfamiliar place" - Sounds familiar? try CARS.
Cars was great because of memorable characters, all open season had was a bunch of untalkative bunnies. Thus conclude that PIXAR is the king of animation.

i give it a 2/5 - as bad as The wild.

The 300…

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

Holy crap… is this a movie to watch out for or what?
an epic done in the style of Frank Miller’s other movie project: Sin City, which i personally thought was a brilliant film.
The base of the film is like this
"300 is a historical epic film directed by Zack Snyder, scheduled to be
released in 2007. Based on the epic graphic novel by Frank Miller, 300
is a ferocious retelling of the ancient Battle of Thermopylae in which
King Leonidas and 300 Spartans fought to the death against Xerxes and
his massive Persian army. Facing insurmountable odds, their valor and
sacrifice inspire all of Greece to unite against their Persian enemy,
drawing a line in the sand for democracy."
Just saw the trailer a moment ago… uber excellent!
One to watch out next year… though i doubt it will see any daylight in Malaysian cinemas.
Thank you censorship board…

How to save a life…

Tuesday, October 17th, 2006

Been listening to this for the past 2 weeks… brilliant song

The Fray - How to save a life

Step one you say we need to talk
He walks you say sit down it’s just a talk
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right
As he goes left and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame
And you begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

Let him know that you know best
Cause after all you do know best
Try to slip past his defense
Without granting innocence
Lay down a list of what is wrong
The things you’ve told him all along
And pray to God he hears you

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

As he begins to raise his voice
You lower yours and grant him one last choice
Drive until you lose the road
Or break with the ones you’ve followed
He will do one of two things
He will admit to everything
Or he’ll say he’s just not the same
And you’ll begin to wonder why you came

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life

There are 3 types of people…

Thursday, October 12th, 2006

"See there’s 3 kinds of people: Dicks, Pussies and assholes. Pussies thinks that everyone can get along and Dicks just wanna fuck all the time without thinking it through; but then you’ve got your assholes chuck, and all the Asshole’s want is to shit all over everything. So Pussies might get mad at Dicks once in a while because Pussies get fuck by Dicks, but Dicks also fuck Assholes chuck, and if they didn’t fuck the Assholes you’d know what you get? You get your Dick and your Pussy all covered in SHIT !."
- Team America - Fuck Yeah !

Puke !

Utterly disgusted!

I was utterly speechless when i saw this news
Boy left with dog
How can the couple even live with themselves… are they animals? not even animals do that to their young, and we are suppose to be the most intelligent beings on earth.
Eventhough little Jun Wei was not their son, he at least shouldn’t be made to suffer like that. i don’t belief that babarians still exists. This reminds me of a chapter from the Manga "Gantz", this little boy lives with his single mother and her abusive boyfriend… same thing, the little boy, around 3-4 years old is left at home alone most of the time, he was feeling hungry 1 day and ate the puding that was in the fridge. Little that the boy know that the puding belonged to the mom’s boyfriend, who then vent his anger on the little boy by kicking him in the stomach numerous times. While the little boy was lying there dying, he held on a piece of paper with a drawing of a super hero… pray that he will be saved.
I thought that such horrendous things can only be fictionalized… perhaps not.
At least little Jun Wei can rest in peace now.

Review of Talladega Nights - The Ballad of Ricky Bobby

Friday, October 6th, 2006

I have so much anticipation for this movie when i saw the trailer for it so time ago… i thought to myself, it must be a killer comedy. Not to say it wasn’t… just that it was a bit bland for my taste.
Talladega Nights - The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (what a mouthful!) is about a Nascar racer who in his entire life just wanna go fast. Ricky (played by Colin Ferrell) lived his life to 1 moto… that is "if you ain’t first, you’re last". His "win at all cost" attitude won him many fans and foes as well… but when his team sponsors another driver in the form of Jean Girard (played brilliantly by Mr Ali G himself), a former formula 1 driver, Ricky starts to lose focus on wining and starts developing a phobia of driving fast after an ugly accident. So you can pretty much figure out whats gonna happen next… gets enlightment from father, rediscover his focus and at the end of the day… yada yada yada.
Don’t get me wrong, this movie is funny… but the fun parts are mostly very slap stick… Ricky in his underwear, Ricky stabbing himself with a knife… very routine stuff. Sasha on the other hand is as brilliant as always… though his french accent is a bit irritating.
i give this movie a 3/5 - Overall good movie but won’t merit another trip for me.

Review of Rob-b-hood

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006

Saw the show yesterday, i wasn’t expecting much from the movie at the first place, and i was surprised how good it was… well not in a "Star Wars" way but in a "well worth my Rm 11 bucks" way. Bloodly hell, Jackie knows where to squeeze money from asian movie goers, the movie in 1U GSC was 11 freakin’ bucks! yeah its only a buck but still… 11 bucks? aiks no use moaning. Jackie Chan is probably the only asian that can command a blockbuster movie ticket sale just by the mere mention of his name and with his exploits in the states, you can say that he is probably the most recognized face all over the world.
Anyways back to the topic, past Jackie movie didn’t do so well IMHO, especially the crap called "the myth". Jackie has found his forte in action comedy, bloody hell he might as well be credited to be the creator of this genre. This movie is exactly where his strenght is played out…come on lah, Jackie Chan’s face, how can you take seriously to that nose!
Basically the movie is about 3 small time cat burglars forced to kidnap a baby from a wealthy family when 1 of the members, Landlord (Michael Hui) life-savings dissappeared during a break-in (ironic?), it doesn’t help when the other 2 members is a complusive gambler (Thong played by Jackie) and a notorious womanizer (Octopus played by Louis Koo). When they were caught speeding  and was stopped during a road block, little do they know that the person that arranged for the kidnap were after their lives. Landlord crashed the mini van during the escape and instructed Thong and Octopus to look after the baby till he is out from jail. Thus begins the "mis-adventure" of 2 guys looking after the baby. There is plenty of comedy to keep you laughing, my favorites are the scene where they sing obscene songs to the cute little baby, Matthew. The baby alone is enough reason to watch this movie… seriously cute the little fella. Koo’s character as always is the comic relief in this show and there were alot of cameos by popular artist most notably Nicholas Tze and Daniel Wu (i’m from brokeback mountain…lol!). There were plenty of action sequence and tear jerking moments in the film, i particularly liked the chase scene.
Overall i give it a 4/5 rating just based on the entertainment value alone.

Not bad
