Good old days of music…

I obtained a copy of the new OASIS album called "Stop the clock" yesterday, its a retrospective (best of) album of old OASIS songs and it struck me… i miss the good old days of good music. How do i categorize "good music", its when a song comes on, you don’t turn to another station. Every single song on that album is top quality when it comes to lyrics, melodies and arrangement, and finish listening to the 2 CD makes you feel wiser, makes you wanna make the world a better place, want to stop wars and end poverty (exaggerating). Sad to say songs this days just make me feel cheap. "Singers" like Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Hillary Duff and High School Musical… are kids this days listening to this crap? not to mention good singers like Gwen Stefani (post no-doubt days) are making songs that makes you wanna kill her, her new song "wind it up" with the yodeling is right up there with Paris’s "stars are blind" as my "irritating songs of the year" list. I look at my playlist on my winamp and see very few (like 2 -3) songs that are recent, what happen to songs like "the masterplan" or "champagne supernova" or "wonderwall" - probably drowned out by talentless singers.

Here’s the lyrics to "The Masterplan" by OASIS (could you believe its a B side track?)

The Masterplan

Take the time to make some sense
Of what you want to say
And cast your words away upon the waves
Bring them back with acquiesce
On a ship of hope today
And as they land upon the shore
Tell them not to fear no more
Say it loud and sing it proud
And they…

Will dance if they want to dance
Please brother take a chance
You know they’re gonna go
Which way they wanna go
All we know is that we don’t know –
What is gonna be
Please brother let it be
Life on the other hand won’t let you understand
Why we’re all part of the masterplan

I’m not saying right is wrong
It’s up to us to make
The best of all things that come our way
And all the things that came have past
The answer’s in the looking glass
There’s four and twenty million doors
Down life’s endless corridor

Say it loud and sing it proud
And they…

Will dance if they want to dance
Please brother take a chance
You know they’re gonna go
Which way they wanna go
All we know is that we don’t know –
What is gonna be
Please brother let it be
Life on the other hand won’t let you understand
Why we’re all part of the masterplan

Well, its a trend which i see i gonna die off in a few years time. Like boybands - girlbands trend of the 90’s. I seriously can’t see any singers currently that have any staying power. Fads come and go i guess.
